For the MAXXI, the first Italian national institution dedicated to contemporary creativity, Goppion was invited to design and make a modular system of table-top display cases, to be configured in various ways to create a uniform display context for temporary exhibitions. Supported by slender steel plate folded like origami, the cabinets have a lightness of form that can prove deceptive of how solid they actually are.
They can be assembled in multiple configurations, each of which seems studied ad hoc thanks to the transparency and delicacy of the bases and the cabinets themselves. The soft lighting and neutrality of the structures are accentuated by the white painting of the steel elements on view.
