Conceived to host long-term exhibitions, this section of the British Museum dedicated to anthropology is organised in line with concepts of modern social anthropology, using objects from various cultures and geographical areas to compare common human experience. It also evokes something of the old wunderkammer: the display cabinets along the walls suggest something of the antique cabinets of the past, while objects to study and contemplate are placed on the central tables.
